“Even MG Siegler, the biggest Apple fanboy in the tech world, admits that the display makes non-Retina-optimized programs and websites — you know, pretty much the entire Internet — look blurry and pixelated, especially if you use any browser other than Safari.”

– This problem can easily be solved using a zoom plugin, which all major browsers have, and some, like Chrome, even have default. I have the 17″ MBP with a 1980×1200 display, and even with that display, I usually browse at 125% zoom level. It does mess up mouseover tooltips and similar things on some sites, but most sites work fine. And I can always switch to 100% on the messed up sites, and Chrome remembers my preference for those sites, so it’s not a big deal.

The bigger consideration is that the retina display doesn’t add all that much. I can see pixels on my 17″ 1980×1200 display, but just barely. And when you’re gaming, it will be even less noticeable, because there are fewer sharp edges compared to a desktop app.

The retina resolution is nice, but I’d much rather take the upgradablity and more powerful hardware for the same price than the retina resolution.
